The Survey of Women's Knowledge on Infants' Vaccination in Zahedan, Iran, 1999

Abstract

Background: The successfulness of the health authorities in the country to cover the Vaccination to Infant is subject to administrative plan, control and providing facilities to carry out this matter. Without knowledge of people, especially, Women, it is not possible to determine the women knowledge about infants' vaccination. The present study was carried out to determine the rate of women's knowledge on infants' vaccination in Zahedan, Iran, 1999.

Methods: The target population is the married women who came to Zahedan Health Clinics for any purpose, of whom 600 women were chosen randomly as the research sample. They were given questionnaire with 16 questions to assess their knowledge of Infants' vaccination.

Results: The results show that 13 .2% of women have high knowledge, 72% moderate knowledge and the rest poor knowledge. The old women have more knowledge than the young one, but there is no relation between the knowledge and the number of children. Mothers' education has significant relation with the knowledge. Also, the more educated women have more knowledge than the others. Also, Iranian women have more knowledge than the Afghan women. The women's interest for learning more about vaccination has relation with the knowledge as well. The most important sources of obtaining knowledge were health staff (52/5%) and Radio and TV (10.5%).

Conclusion: Totally, although the women's knowledge on infants vaccination was medium, but they practice was good, which can improve it by educational classes.
